The Program Collection consists of programs from University of North Carolina School of the Arts performances and events, as well as selected professional affiliate and local performing arts organizations. Included in some files are brochures, invitations, and mailers, as well as press release drafts and other printed ephemera.

Archives collections may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information which is protected under federal or state privacy laws, the North Carolina Public Records Act (N.C.G.S. § 132 1 et seq.), and Article 7 of the North Carolina State Personnel Act (Privacy of State Employee Personnel Records, N.C.G.S. § 126-22 et seq.). Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in the collections without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which the University of North Carolina School of the Arts assume no responsibility.

Abstract

The Program Collection consists of programs from University of North Carolina School of the Arts performances and events, as well as selected professional affiliate and local performing arts organizations. Included in some files are brochures and mailers.

Arrangement

The collection is organized into 12 series: Series 1. School of Dance, 1966-2019; Series 2. School of Drama, 1966-2019; Series 3. School of Music, 1965-2018; Series 4. School of Filmmaking, 1999-2019; Series 5. School of Design and Production, 1978-2013; Series 6. All-School Productions, 1966-2015; Series 7. Campus Life, 1966-2016; Series 8. Commencements, Awards, and Convocations, 1965-2020; Series 9. Chancellor Installations, 1974-2015; Series 10. Galas, Dedications, and Special Events, 1966-2019; Series 11. Roger L. Stevens Center Playbills, 1984-2019; and Series 12. Professional Affiliates and Local Performing Arts Organizations, 1967-2015.

Materials are organized chronologically within each series, with the following exceptions: in Series 1, Nutcracker programs have been arranged separately from other School of Dance programs; in Series 3 and 4, Faculty and Guest Performance programs have been arranged separately from student performances; and in Series 12, programs have been arranged alphabetically by organization and then chronologically within each group.

Records transferred from UNCSA offices and departments.

Accruals

Additions to the collection will be made regularly as programs are transferred or donated to the Archives.

Additional material related to UNCSA performance history can be found in many other Archives collections. Of particular interest may be the Poster Collection (RG-0033), the Film Collection (RG-0037), the Video Collection (RG-0038), and the Audio Collection (RG-0039).

The UNCSA Archives holds collections related to a number of the affiliated performing arts organizations and programs represented in this collection, including the Piedmont Chamber Orchestra (MC-0004), the International Music Program (MC-0005), the Festival Theatre Inc. (MC-0007), and the Civic Music Association of Winston-Salem (MC-0008).

Processing Information

The collection was arranged into series based on UNCSA departments, activities, and associated organizations. Materials were placed in acid-free folders and boxes.
